About Us - The initiation of Educate Lanka was a result of the successful campaign - Wave of Hope (www.waveofhopes.com), launched with the purpose of building houses and schools in Sri Lanka in the aftermath of the Tsunami. The Foundation was started by a group of determined young Sri Lankans studying in the Greater Washington area who were looking for ways to contribute back to their motherland for what she had bestowed in them over so many years. It soon gained much support from the Sri Lankan communities throughout the US as well as from the Sri Lankans in other countries around world. As students, we believe education of the youth is the foundation of every country. Hence, we decided to create a unique path for all of the Sri Lankan expatriates around the world to come together and be a helping hand to empower the students in Sri Lanka to fulfill their ultimate dream - EDUCATION. Mission - Founded in 2006 and registered in the state of Maryland, the Educate Lanka Foundation, Inc. is a tax-exempt non-profit organization under the IRS code 501(c) (3). The mission of the Educate Lanka Foundation, Inc. (ELF) is to empower underprivileged students in Sri Lanka to achieve the education they rightfully deserve. Our primary mode of accomplishing this objective is by providing financial scholarships to those students who show promise of academic excellence to ensure that they achieve a quality education. The Foundation acts as an independent entity to locate people from around the world to become sponsors for these student scholarships. ELF believes to accomplish this throughout Sri Lanka by serving all communities, regardless of their ethnicity, cast, or religion. Furthermore, the Educate Lanka Foundation focuses on undertaking educational infrastructure development and supporting projects that improve the overall quality of the country's education. Through fundraisers, donations, and grants, ELF shall implement these projects in the most-needed areas in the country, enhancing the future of Sri Lanka's youth.
